Growing in Faith and Knowledge during your engagement
The three great Christian powers for life are faith, hope and love. During the engagement period for a couple two out of these three are very strong. It is a time of intensified love because now the decision to marry this special person has been made. It is also a time of great hope, not in the sense of a vague hope that everything will be all right, but rather in the sense of having something that is well worth living for. Very often though the one that is weakest is faith. This is a quality that many people can be afraid of. But there is no need to be afraid.
The engagement period is a special time to work on growing in faith. It is a time when couples are going to look for readings and prayers for their wedding service. Make it a time not just to look but also to enter into what you are looking at. It is a time to grow in the knowledge of what your sacrament of marriage means and to discover the assurance that God will be with you always in your love. It is a time to learn to pray together for your marriage and for all that you want for your life together. And it is a time to appreciate again the richness of the Eucharist and the other sacraments so that your love can grow and your hope can become even stronger.
